History of the Hall

Preservation Hall began its life of community service in Ohio as a US Army barracks during WWI. After the war it became a school, and later a church in Cleveland, Ohio. IN 1938 it was donated to a local congregation, which transported the structure to Noblesville to serve as its church. Though congregations changed, it continued as a church until it was purchased by a local musician, John Gilmore, in 2013, and repurposed as a concert venue for singer-songwriters. In honor of its past, John christened it the “Logan Street Sanctuary.” It quickly developed a reputation as a “listening room,” attracting musicians from many states and even other countries. After it was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) in 2016, its board added writing workshops, the Polk Street Review, theatrical performances, parties and lectures, and displayed work from area artists.

In 2019, the building was purchased by the Noblesville Preservation Alliance and renamed Preservation Hall. It serves as our official headquarters, as a community center and as a performing arts venue. It is also available to rent for weddings, community celebrations, entertainment and educational events.
